We had a fairly long travel day as we wanted to get to Tulsa early enough on Tuesday to check in to our hotel and relaxing before meeting Roger Collins. Ironically, tonight we are staying in Collinsville.😃

Traveling through Pennsylvania and a very short section of West Virginia, the terrain was wooded and hilly with beautiful bright yellow goldenrod and purple asters blooming in the median and along the side of the road.

Once we entered Ohio, it became fairly flat and much of the way through Ohio, Indiana and Illinois there were fields of corn, oats and soybeans as far as the eye could see. We were very surprised to twice see dead wild boar along the side of the road. Apparently wild boar are a serious invasive pest that eat food needed by native animals and they also cause damage to agriculture and residential gardens.

One of the things that we noticed on entering Indiana was the profusion of billboards right along I-70. I thought the Highway Beautification Act of the 1960s restricted the placement of billboards along the interstate highways.

This is also Trump country - there were still numerous Trump/Pence signs and some barns had huge Trump/Pence banners.

It was again in the 90s much of the day - thankfully the AC was working. Traveling on I-70 across all three states, most of the traffic is tractor trailers - it highlights the importance of long distance trucking to our economy. Fortunately, the traffic moved along at a steady 70 - 75 mph all the way except for some construction zones.

We got gas for $2.19 in both Ohio and Illinois, considerably less than the $2.69 we paid in PA.

We stayed at a Comfort Inn in Collinsvlille. The first room they gave us reeked of cigarette smoke which is surprising since this is supposed to be a "smoke free" hotel. Fortunately, they could give us a different room which was fine. When we checked in, I had to initial that we would pay $200 for cleaning if we smoked in the room.

We had dinner at the Bandanas BBQ restaurant right next to the hotel where thankfully, I could get a large Sam Adams Octoberfest beer! We had dry-rubbed BBQ that was very good, not very fatty.
